What is lean?

What is lean manufacturing?Lean Manufacturing or simply “lean” was developed in the 1990s as a management philosophy mainly created by those working at Toyota who developed the Toyota Production System (TPS). The idea behind lean is to eliminate as much “waste” from the production process as possible and to simultaneously optimize flow. Waste is further classified as something that does not create any value for the end customer. Waste can be anything from walking too many steps between processes to unnecessary actions in the production process (i.e. rework).

What is the byproduct of Lean?  Processes are streamlined, unnecessary waste is eliminated and production facilities become more efficient and therefore, more profitable.

Lean methodologies have become more refined over time as adapters began critically questioning the historical way of producing items to decide whether or not these processes continued to be valid. Lean can also be considered a set of tools that help identify and eliminate waste which reduces production time, improves quality and reduces costs.

Our expert lean consultants have the experience necessary to make waste reductions and ultimately, cost reductions in your facility a reality. Here is one of our latest lean success stories. To learn more about what our lean team can do for you please contact us.
