Microsoft Copilot Studio

Microsoft Copilot Studio is a low-code tool for building AI agents. Teams use it to make three kinds of agents: ones that answer questions, ones that complete multi-step tasks on their own, and ones that work over voice or phone calls. Builders ground agents in company data using Microsoft's Work IQ and more than 1,400 prebuilt connectors, and can add tools through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, an open standard for connecting AI models to outside data and actions. It is sold as part of Microsoft 365 and Power Platform. Admins manage agents from the Power Platform admin center and review usage through Microsoft Purview. Finished agents can run inside Teams, SharePoint, a company website, or social channels.

This fits a company already using Microsoft 365 where IT staff and a few power users, not just developers, will build the agents. A good starting point is one agent for one process, such as answering HR policy questions or routing IT tickets, expanding to multi-agent setups later. Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses run about $30 per user per month, while Copilot Studio itself is billed through Copilot Credits, prepaid at a discount or pay-as-you-go, and both need an active Azure subscription budgeted separately. Treat these as planning figures and confirm with Microsoft or a reseller. Watch two risks: credit costs can climb fast once agents run often or call outside tools, and governance gaps can appear if business users publish agents without IT review.
